Education in Long Beach

While most people tend to think of southern California as being subpar when it comes to education, the city of Long Beach is among the few exceptions to the rule. Not only do they have a wide assortment of private schooling options, but the public systems also receive high marks for their educational quality. There are actually two main public school systems, the ABC Unified School District and the Paramount School District. The ABC Unified School District serves the area of Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens, and part of Lakewood. The Paramount System serves the majority of Long Beach and includes parts of Bellflower, South Gate, and Lakewood.

Families that are moving to the area may wish to look into the many private school options for their children. There are a number of church affiliated private schools as well as several others that have private endowments. Of these, the Regency High School and Zinsmeyer Academy are perhaps the most notable. Their excellent track record of graduating students are some of the highest in the nation and many graduates go on to study at elite colleges and universities in all corners of the United States.

As far as local colleges and universities, there are two main options to choose from. The first is the local branch of the California State University, which is the second largest university in California with an astounding number of students. The other option is the smaller Long Beach City College that focuses on a traditional liberal arts education. There are actually two campuses for the school, one at Lakewood Village and the Pacific Coast Campus that is located in the central area of Long Beach. Yet another choice for further education is DeVry University, which is found in the Kilroy Airport Center. Whatever school a person would like to attend, there are affordable apartments and houses in areas that are in close proximity to the campuses.
